I currently reside in Thousand Oaks, California and South Redondo Beach, California with my husband. after raising my three sons. After years of teaching in the classroom, I realized that my passion was helping students and their families in a more personal setting.
When my son was diagnosed with a visual processing disorder in 2012, I saw first hand the anxiety and puzzling feeling of trying to help your child and getting their needs met. For the first time, I was on the other end of the table, and I felt at the whim of the teachers and education support staff that worked with my son. I felt fortunate to have been able to navigate the education system on my own, but it made me realize that other families aren’t privy to the inside working knowledge of the school system. With so many abbreviations, SST, IEP, 504 plans, SL, TBI, OHI for instance, I realized that from a parent perspective, this process could be quite intimidating.
As a classroom teacher, I was the bridge and the advocate for all my students. I quickly realized with growing responsibilities on the classroom teacher, this personal connection was becoming less common. In 2016, I launched MK Education services and in 2019, I completed my course work to become a licensed Educational Therapist. I use this knowledge to help students achieve their potential.
I offer these services to families to help them feel at ease while a professional is supporting them in navigating the educational process. I specialize in looking at the whole picture, and taking a pragmatic view on the child’s education to help families feel both heard and satisfied that their child is receiving the best education possible. add another page.
